The Simcity program is full of useful bugs. Most of my cities make use of them. Here are how to use some of them:
Using the tree tool, click and hold the mouse button on a single square. Then hold the shift key and move the mouse off of that square and then back on. This will erase the trees. This tool will come in handy later on.

Using the power tool, make a wire bridge across the water. Then bulldoze the middle with the bulldozer. The wires will still be there, just invisible.

Build an Arcology, and then erase it. The population will remain, The Arcology will not pollute or cause any crime, and as long as no government buildings are built on it, it will stay there.

Using the Underwater Power Line trick, make an invisible connection. Then build another wire bridge in the same place. using the water tool, turn the ends of the bridge into waterfalls. Bulldoze the wires, and then build Hydro Plants on the waterfalls(pay attention to the way the screen is oriented, it determines the way the plants are built). Repeat to make a wall around your coastline.

Hydro and wind generators don't ever need to be rebuilt. To use these most effectively, raise a piece of land. Then raise another 3 spaces away. Continue until you have a decent area filled with hills. Make waterfalls on all of the hillsides, and then build hydro plants on the waterfalls. Then build wind generators on the hill tops(water pumps work well too, just remember to connect them to your water grid.

Water pumps that are surrounded by fresh water put out more water than those that are surrounded by land. Select a piece of land for your water system. Cover it completely with power lines. Then erase them all. Build water pumps in a checkerboard pattern and then fill in the empty spaces with water. Connect the water pipes, and you've got a heavy duty water supply.
